About Tomak's

A personal printing service built on curiosity, run with care, and open to any challenge.

Started with one printer and a lot of curiosity

Tomak's started as a personal project — one printer, one material, and a genuine interest in making things. Based in Cape Town, we began printing small custom items for friends and family, and realised pretty quickly that 3D printing solves a surprisingly wide range of everyday problems.

What started as a hobby is now a proper service. We take on everything from personalised gifts and name tags to functional parts and bespoke home décor — printed with care on a Qidi Q1 Pro and finished to a standard we're proud of.

Our Setup

A Qidi Q1 Pro — built for precision and speed

The Qidi Q1 Pro is a high-spec enclosed FDM printer known for its accuracy, fast print speeds, and consistent layer quality. The enclosed build chamber means better temperature stability, which matters a lot when printing technical materials. It's not a beginner's machine — and that's the point.

Printer Qidi Q1 Pro
Build Volume 245 × 245 × 245 mm
Layer Height 0.1 – 0.3 mm
Primary Material PLA & PLA+
File Types STL, OBJ, 3MF
Filament Dryer Creality Space Pi Plus

Growing Capabilities

Expanding beyond PLA — one material at a time

PLA and PLA+ remain our primary materials — they cover the vast majority of what people need. But we're actively investing in the equipment and knowledge to work with more demanding filaments. PETG, ABS, ASA, and TPU all have properties PLA simply can't match: higher heat resistance, UV stability, flexibility, or chemical resistance. We're building the capability to take these on reliably.

PETG

Tougher and more heat-resistant than PLA. Great for functional parts and anything that lives outdoors.

ABS

High heat resistance and good impact strength. Ideal for enclosures, brackets, and mechanical parts.

ASA

Like ABS but UV-stable. Purpose-built for outdoor use where sun exposure would degrade other materials.

TPU

Flexible and rubber-like. Used for phone cases, grips, gaskets, and anything that needs to bend.

PLA+

Our everyday workhorse. Improved toughness over standard PLA with the same ease of use and surface quality.

More coming

We're actively testing new materials as our setup matures. Ask us if you have a specific requirement.

New Equipment — Creality Space Pi Plus

We recently acquired a Creality Space Pi Plus double-roll filament dryer. Moisture is the enemy of technical filaments — it causes bubbling, stringing, and weak layer adhesion. By keeping filament at the right temperature and humidity from the moment it leaves the spool, we get cleaner results and fewer failed prints. It's a small piece of kit that makes a big difference.
